Having clean glassware is a must. Unfortunately some of your guests seem to try and make your glassware dirty on purpose. Whether you have a special glass-washing machine or it is done by hand, there are a few things which completely spoil the water you are cleaning with. Once it comes in contact with the machine or sink where you clean your glassware; drain the sink or machine or rinse thoroughly every nook and corner with soap and boiling water.
This is time consuming and no fun, so better not to get these products in your sink or machine:

Dairy products; milk, whipped cream, ice cream, etc

Greasy; any greasy food, oil, lipstick

Fruit pulp, most fresh juices
All these things affect your water so much, your future glassware will not be clean. Either the pulp sticks to your glassware or they will have a weird glaze from the grease.
When cleaning glasses with a special machine, you should always check how they look. Typically you do not need to polish them after, that is after all the point of having this machine. So make sure you keep this machine clean and in good condition otherwise it does more harm than good.
If you clean glassware by hand be sure to use just a little bit of soap. You do not want the water to be foamy on top. Too much soap will also create some sort of slippery layer which causes you to start cleaning all over again.
Once cleaned you need to polish your glassware, especially wine and cocktail glasses:

Take a dry warm cloth(from radiator)

It can only be used to polish clean glassware

It has to be small fibres to not leave fibres behind in the glass

Dip the glass in boiling water to create a layer of condensation

Polish the glass with the cloth

Do not touch the glass again with bare skin(fingers) as it will leave prints
Personal note:
Nothing worse than a dirty glass which holds the drink you just ordered. Okay maybe 1 thing: the bartender who just made it for you.
Your guests at the bar do not need the lipstick of that woman at table 15 on their glass.
It is a general misconception the cheaper lipsticks leave stains on glasses, or collars for that matter. I have been told it is all about how a lipstick is applied. A color over a balm is a no-go as it will stain everything which is touched…
And please stop touching your food with glass, whatever reason the guest might have. We have to somehow clean it without being disgusted.
