Craft cocktails
Something old, something new… Something borrowed, something blue. A verse which seems to be written for craft cocktails. It stand for continuity, optimism, happiness, purity and love.
Craft bartending in general is on the rise. Craft cocktails therefor form a new trend. As the world cares more for quality, and has the money to support it, crafts are being respected once again.
In the world of cocktails this means drinks are created with great care, fresh products and homemade ingredients.
Some examples of these products and ingredients:
-
Freshly squeezed juice
-
Homegrown herbs
-
Self-made bitters
-
Homemade syrups
Handmade and local products really are different from mass production. They associate with a healthy lifestyle and better taste. The other side is the cost-factor. Creating your own products often is quite more costly than buying mass produced products. If ingredients are used wisely the costs should not be too much.
If cocktails are part of your core business and you are able to up-sell because of the extra work you put in, it might be well worth it. Not too many common bars will have unique products and being able to actually sell ‘craft cocktails‘ can give you the edge you’re looking for.
Another bonus is the fact most bartenders will like to work with these products and display their craft with pride.
Personal note:
As a bartender you can of course experiment at home and discuss it at your bar. Start with simple things, such as simple syrup or rich syrup. Infuse a bottle of vodka with your favorite herb or spice, maybe both. Perhaps it is a match made in heaven.
I feel having bottles on your bar with handwritten labels adds value. It feels like home. And furthermore you feel the effort put into it. Craft cocktails are a beautiful thing.
Sincerely,
Den The Man
